Imminent Research Grants
Imminent, the research center of the language services company Translated, funds five original research projects a year at $20,000 each for one year, $100,000 in total. Topics are language economics, language data, machine learning algorithms for translation, human-computer interaction and the neuroscience of language, and proposals from any field of research are accepted. Startups, researchers, innovators, authors, university labs, organizations and companies can apply from anywhere in the world with a short form: a 250-word pitch, why the team is right for it and what it will produce. About 20 candidates move to a second phase with a detailed description and a 2-minute video, and 50% of the money is paid on signing and 50% on the final report. The apply page says applications are under review, winners are announced in January and a new call opens in Spring; the fifth-edition winners were announced February 17, 2026.
