Scientific Collaboration
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation's Scientific Collaboration subprogram, within its Technology program, funds tools and practices that help teams and communities of researchers be more creative and productive independent of place and time. It has three areas: the future of conferences and workshops, including prototypes of alternate forms of conference participation; group dynamics in science, on how collaboration tools and scientists shape each other, with interest in immersive technologies; and human-AI collaboration, covering multidisciplinary research on human-AI interaction and prototypes of new uses of AI systems in research practice. Interested grantseekers email a letter of inquiry of no more than two pages to technology@sloan.org, stating the project's purpose, the proposed work, total cost and the amount sought from Sloan, duration and key team members; promising letters are invited to submit a formal proposal, and Sloan makes grants year-round with grants over $250K approved quarterly. The program page states no deadline, grant size or eligibility limits beyond the Foundation's general exclusions, which include individuals and, generally, for-profit institutions.
