OpenAI's AI and Mental Health Grant Program
OpenAI's AI and Mental Health Grant Program funded independent research on the overlap of AI and mental health, covering both risks and benefits, with a preference for interdisciplinary teams that combine technical researchers with mental health experts or people with lived experience. Applicants had to be 18 or older and affiliated with a research institution or organization, or have significant experience with mental health; for-profit organizations were not prioritized. Proposed budgets were $5,000 to $100,000 per project, totaling up to $2 million, funded and administered by OpenAI Group PBC. Applications ran from 1 December 2025 to 19 December 2025 with selected proposals notified on or before 15 January 2026, and a 28 January 2026 update on OpenAI's page says applications are closed.
