Global Climate and Environmental Research Fellowship

The National Academies' Office of International Networks, Cooperation, and Security runs the Global Climate and Environmental Research Fellowship (GCERF), sponsored by a Donor Advised Fund of the Marin Community Foundation. It supports early- and mid-career U.S. researchers in climate, earth systems and environmental fields to work in residence with international counterparts for three to six months. The inaugural pilot cycle places fellows at three host institutions in India: IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras. Applicants need a terminal research degree received within the last 15 years and must be actively researching climate, earth systems, environmental sciences or a closely related field. Applications open November 18, 2026 and close January 27, 2027, with selection notifications in late May to June 2027 and fellow departures from September 2027.
