Air Force Science & Technology Fellowship Program
The Air Force Science & Technology Fellowship Program (AF STFP) is funded by the U.S. Air Force and administered by the National Academies' Office of Fellowships. It gives nationally competitive fellowships to postdoctoral and senior scientists for self-directed, collaborative research with Air Force scientists and engineers at the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Air Force Institute of Technology, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Space Force. Fellows receive an annual stipend starting at $95,000, which may be higher with years of experience since the doctorate, plus an annual professional travel and development allowance of $5,000. Awards are typically for 12 months, renewable for an additional 12 months, and fellows are limited to U.S. citizens. Applications are accepted in four cycles a year with deadlines on February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1 at 5 PM ET. The cycle that opened September 1, 2026 closed on November 2, 2026 and is under review from November 3, 2026; the next cycle opens December 1.
