Space Technology Research Institutes (STRI26)

NASA's Space Technology Research Grants Program solicits university-led, early-stage, multidisciplinary space technology research through the Space Technology Research Institutes (STRI) appendix to its SpaceTech REDDI 2026 announcement. The 2026 appendix, STRI26, covers enabling future Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine design capabilities. Only U.S. institutions of higher education may submit, with a faculty principal investigator at the lead institution and a team of at least three U.S. institutions of higher education; industry and nonprofit teaming is allowed. NASA plans one award of up to $13 million over a maximum of five years, starting around May 2027. Mandatory pre-proposals are due on 3 November 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern and invited full proposals on 21 January 2027 at 5:00 PM Eastern, submitted through NSPIRES.
