Microsoft Research Fellowship
Microsoft Research funds academic scholars, meaning faculty, PhD students and postdocs, to work with Microsoft Research on open research challenges. Awards are one-time unrestricted gifts paid to the institution, not to individuals, and include travel for in-person collaboration. The gift is $47,000 in the United States and Canada, $27,000 in Europe, and $17,000 in Africa, Australia and New Zealand, India, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. Applicants must be employed or enrolled at a degree-granting university in an eligible region, and faculty proposals must name a PhD student collaborator. The 2026 call opened on 4 November 2025 and its deadline of 16 December 2025 has passed; proposal notifications were scheduled for 27 February 2026 and payments for March and April 2026.
