Mercatus Fellowship
The Mercatus Fellowship is a year-long educational program from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University for students, scholars and practitioners interested in political economy, built around scholar-led colloquia and Issue Labs. It consolidates several earlier named fellowships, including the Smith, Bastiat, Ostrom, Morgenstern, Menger, Coase and Buchanan Fellowships. Applicants of any nationality and discipline need a bachelor's degree or equivalent and must not be enrolled in a degree program at George Mason; master's, JD and doctoral students, early-career scholars with a doctorate from the last six years, and practitioners are eligible. Fellows receive an award of up to $4,000 covering a stipend, required readings, and travel, paid subject to completing program requirements. Applications for 2026-27 are closed; that cycle's deadlines were January 1 for early decision and March 30 for final applications. Dates for 2027-28 are not yet posted and will be announced on the site and to the Hayek Program mailing list.
