Practical Research for Innovative Cancer Control (革新的がん医療実用化研究事業)
AMED, the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development, funds the Practical Research for Innovative Cancer Control program, which supports research from the late non-clinical stage through clinical stages aimed at putting cancer medicine into practice. The FY2027 call covers cancer prevention, cancer diagnosis and treatment technology, new cancer drugs and therapies including regenerative and cell products, and standard treatment and life-stage-specific care, with a young researcher development track for clinical sample research. Annual caps per project, excluding indirect costs, run from ¥3 million to ¥77 million depending on the topic, for projects expected to start in April 2027 and run to the end of FY2029. Applicants must be principal investigators at eligible domestic research institutions and submit through the e-Rad system by noon on 25 November 2026; an online briefing is held on 4 November 2026 at 14:00. A separate Japan-UK (AMED-NIHR) joint call on childhood and young adult cancer clinical trials is pre-announced for October 2026.
