African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA)
Gavi launched the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator in June 2024 as a financing instrument for vaccine manufacturers in Africa. AVMA makes up to US$1.2 billion available over ten years from its June 2024 launch through milestone payments and per-dose accelerator payments. Milestone payments include US$25 million for a qualifying vaccine with drug substance manufactured in Africa on an AVMA Priority technology platform, US$20 million for priority-vaccine drug substance in Africa and US$10 million for fill-and-finish only. Manufacturers apply to Gavi for an eligibility assessment during WHO prequalification, after the WHO site visit, using the AVMA application form and guidance. Payments are subject to caps including US$250 million per manufacturer.
