    DARPA and NSF developed AI Forge to fund and manage university-led research in AI interpretability, AI control, adversarial robustness and, from Cycle 2, AI assurance. Its initial university-capabilities request for information closed June 22, 2026 after receiving nearly 130 responses, and Riverside Research runs the AI Forge Forum for DARPA and NSF. The Cycle 2 Request for Abstracts, open to institutions that have joined the forum, closes November 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET; selected Project Ventures run for 12 months.
