Cohere For AI, renamed Cohere Labs in April 2025, is Cohere's dedicated machine-learning research lab and open science community, with roots in the for.ai research collaboration founded in 2017. It runs a Research Scholars Program offering mentorship and infrastructure to rising researchers, an open science community of about 4,500 members from 150 countries, and Catalyst Grants providing free API access to academic partners and impact-focused organizations. Known projects include the Aya multilingual model family and the Global MMLU benchmark.^1,2
