Astera Institute
12-18 month fully funded residency for scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across Neuro-AI, AI-enabled life sciences, open science, and public-goods infrastructure; $125k-$250k/yr salary plus $0-$1.5M per-project budget. Application cycles run about twice a year.
Cooperative AI Foundation
The Cooperative AI Foundation's recurring PhD fellowship supporting doctoral researchers working on cooperative AI, with cohorts announced for 2025 (16 scholars) and 2026 (14 fellows).

Foresight Institute
Foresight Institute's Fellowship supports individuals working on AI safety and related frontier technologies. The 2027 cohort application deadline is July 31, 2026.
Google.org
A fully funded fellowship run by Watson Institute with Google for community leaders using AI or technology in eligible Google data center communities. The 2026 program runs from September 2026 through January 2027 and includes training, mentorship, a virtual summit, and a $1,000 stipend for each fellow's community workshop. The July 12 priority deadline has passed, but applications remain open on a rolling basis until the cohort is filled.
Linux Foundation
Recurring Linux Foundation mentorship connecting new contributors with project maintainers on a defined deliverable. Full-time terms run spring (March–May), summer (June–August), and fall (September–November); mentees apply on the LFX platform to at most three projects per term. Participating projects may offer educational stipends on a purchasing-power-parity schedule; terms starting July 1, 2026 use a $1,000 minimum and $6,600 maximum.
MATS (MATS Research)
An independent research fellowship connecting researchers with mentors in AI alignment, transparency, and security. The main program runs 10 weeks (with an optional 6-12 month extension) and provides a $1,250 weekly stipend, a $2,000-per-week compute budget, housing, meals, and office space in Berkeley and London.
MicroAGI
6-month in-residence fellowship in Munich or Zurich for embodied AI/robotics builders: $10K/month stipend, up to $2M compute, lab access.
National Research Foundation (NRF) Singapore
NRF Singapore's flagship award giving early-career researchers independent research funding in Singapore over five years, up to SGD 3.25 million. The 19th call (Class of 2027) opened 12 February 2026 and closed 13 May 2026. NRF invites applications once a year.
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Annual U.S. National Science Foundation competition awarding roughly 2,500 fellowships per year to outstanding STEM graduate students, providing three years of a $37k stipend plus a $16k education allowance, usable over five years. Applications, reviews, and awards are handled by a dedicated GRFP Operations Center; the 2026 awards were announced in April 2026 from around 14,000 applicants.
Software Freedom Conservancy
Outreachy is a paid open-source internship program (administered with Software Freedom Conservancy support) offering $7,000 USD stipends, running two rounds a year. December 2026 initial applications are open from 24 August to 31 August 2026 at 16:00 UTC. Internships run 7 December 2026 to 8 March 2027.
Python Software Foundation
Nomination-based honorary recognition for people who have made significant contributions to the Python community. The Fellow Work Group reviews nominations each quarter. The Q3 2026 cutoff was August 20. Q4 nominations open in October and close November 20, 2026.
Rust Foundation
Provides stable, long-term funding and a Maintainer in Residence program for key Rust maintainers, funded through donations and contributions.
