Google Chrome
A Google Chrome-run fund, fiscally hosted by Open Source Collective, that paid out to 10 open-source projects in the "advanced apps" space (progressive web apps and related web-platform capabilities) in a single distribution window in October 2022.
Ford Foundation
A collaborative research-grants initiative — Ford Foundation with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Mozilla's Open Source Support programme, Omidyar Network, and Open Society Foundations (fiscally hosted by Open Collective Foundation for the 2020 round) — funding research on the open-source code and digital infrastructure underpinning the internet, including how to sustain maintainer communities and address systemic inequities in the field. Ran across a 2018 wave (managed jointly by Ford and Sloan) and a larger 2020 collaborative wave.

Mozilla Foundation
A one-time Mozilla Open Source Support (MOSS) track funding open-source projects responding to the COVID-19 pandemic (contact tracing/health data tools, mutual-aid logistics, medical hardware). Made at least 6 awards totaling roughly $214,964, including to OpenMRS, Careables, Open Food Network, and VentMon. Part of the broader MOSS program, now on indefinite hiatus.
Mozilla Foundation
The Secure Open Source (SOS) track of Mozilla Open Source Support paid for third-party security audits of widely used open-source software and the remedial work to fix problems found. Of the awards with a disclosed dollar amount, sizes ranged from $15,000 to $187,500; many entries in Mozilla's award directory do not disclose an amount. Mozilla selected candidates directly rather than running an open application process. The broader MOSS program is on indefinite hiatus and not accepting new applications following Mozilla's 2020 restructuring.
